DESCRIPTION:Join us to learn about Alzheimer's disease and related dementias\, promote effective communication\, respond to dementia-related behaviors and how to prepare for future care costs.\n\n\n\nThis four-part series is provided through a grant from Sonoma County Vintners Foundation and will cover the following topics:\n\n\n\nUNDERSTANDING ALZHEIMER'S AND DEMENTIA This presentation covers the impact of Alzheimer's\, the difference between Alzheimer's and dementia\, stages\, risk factors\, symptom management\, current research and Alzheimer's Association resources.\n\n\n\nEFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES Communication is more than just talking and listening   it's also about sending and receiving messages through attitude\, tone of voice\, facial expressions and body language. Caregivers will learn to decode and behavioral messages and identify strategies to help them connect.\n\n\n\nUNDERSTANDING AND RESPONDING TO DEMENTIA-RELATED BEHAVIOR Behavior is a powerful form of communication and is one of the ways people with dementia express their needs and feelings as language is lost. Participants will learn to decode behavioral messages\, identify behavior triggers and how to intervene with some common behavioral challenges of ADRD.\n\n\n\nMANAGING MONEY: A CAREGIVER'S GUIDE TO FINANCES It's never too early to put financial plans in place especially for dementia caregivers. This program will provide tips for managing someone else's finances\, how to prepare for future care costs and the benefits of early planning.\n\n\n\nAttendance at all four programs is not required.
